Hooray for Group Study!

I had always been a solo person when it comes to studying for exams. It worked better with my own paste of learning, and I also had my own ideas on how/what to study. But I often found myself being distracted by millions of things at home. Plus, studying alone became extremely boring. With enormous pressure from all the exams on this week, I decided to try a group study with my classmates this time. Indeed, it surely turned out to be the best decision on my learning experience and the exams.
Here are beneficial points in my group study. I became more committed to study because the group members depended on my presentation and participation. They also brought up some ideas and points that I did not considered as important and I was able to compare my notes with others to clarify and fill in any gaps. Foremost, Interacting with them truly made it beneficially enjoyable.

  1. I'm like you, I have always been one that likes to study by myself. Since starting the Dental Hygiene program and with the amount of classes we had, I decided to try studying in a group and I feel that when I study in a group, I actually do better on my test. When I come home, I get distracted so easily also. If I use the computer to study, I notice I start browsing the web. Studying in a group keeps me on topic and it's also great to have the support of your classmates.

  3. I definately agree with you! I always liked studying at my own pace without feeling stupid when I didn't know things that other people knew. But as I started going to group study sessions, I realized the information that I already knew could be confirmed and information that I didn't know was also learned. Through group study, I have had helpful hints on landmarks to study for and about easier ways to study like with acrynomes. Group study also helps procrastinators like me to study on-time with other classmates. But I think it is also important who you study with because sometimes, group study can distract you even more!
